Reviews of ESLinsider's courses can be seen below. There are currently two courses: a basic course and the main one TEKA. This online TEFL course was formerly called the Advanced and before that 120 hour course, but it has undergone several iterations and improvements since then. Formerly there was also a 20 and 60 hour course.

Please read these 2 points before leaving a review.

  1. Use your email and name (or last name abbreviated such as "Ian L.") that you used in the course. Constructive criticism is o.k, but if you do not use your name and/or email used in the course then your review and comment may be deleted because then it is likely that you did not take the course and that you may be a troll out to damage the reputation of ESLinsider like this guy is doing.
  2. Mention the course that you took.

On the bottom of the page there's a video where I selected some of what I consider to be some of the best reviews on ESLinsider here.

TEFL 120 Hour
6 year(s) ago.
I took Ian's 120 hour (now called Advanced) course two years ago and it was one of the best investments I made. I had been teaching in Korea for six years up to that point and had to learn through trial and error on the jobs I worked which was not easy. Ian's course is practical and based on actual experience in the classroom, not just dry theory. The videos were extremely helpful in the process and I still refer to them every now and then when I need ideas for class. While the course is not overly difficult, it's certainly no walk in the park as you do have to pay attention and take notes. I really wish this course had been around during my early years in Korea because it would've helped so much more than the so-called orientation and training I did for a week in Seoul when I started with EPIK. I highly recommend these courses if you are serious about gaining practical knowledge of ESL teaching from someone who has been there.

This course was excellent. Ian presented information in a very straightforward manner that made it fast and easy to use in a classroom. Instead of boring you with tons of theory, this course shows you what you can, how you can do it, and why you should do it.
In this course, students learn with easy to follow videos with demos.

I also really appreciated how active Ian was on the messaging boards. I could always rely on him to help answer a question to an issue or to give me feedback on my assignments.

Overall, this is a great course to learn to teach or to improve on your skills as a teacher. Thanks, Ian!

Excellent course, affordable and to the point. The content focuses on what is important and instills confidence consistently throughout. The videos are fantastic and I will be using them as a point of reference throughout my development. I found Ian very friendly and attentive, clearing up any queries that I sent in his direction. I can’t recommend highly enough.

THIS COURSE IS NOT THEORY, IT IS BASED ON PRACTICAL EXPERIENCES.

This is a great course that I had never joined before. I finished TEFL-120 hours course and that is very useful for me. Every time I start studying each level in this course, I cannot stop myself. It does not like you learn something new, it likes you discover the new world of teaching approach. Ian not only transfers teaching methods, but also shares all of his experiences. Through this course, you can apply immediately in your class.

I highly recommend this course for those who want to make their class full of effectiveness, fun and joy.
Thanks Ian for your lessons and your support throughout the course.

60 Hour Course

You'll find the teaching methods and learning theories very helpful. It was so refreshing to really understand the different ways people learn. I was relieved that Ian shared so many tips and tricks in regards to the unique learning styles mentioned in the course. Definitely bring a notebook because the things you will learn are more like principles instead of laws. I cherish my notes and plan to keep them.

Rounding Out Your Resume

The 20-Hour course was a quick, inexpensive way to add a TEFL Certificate to my resume. I already teach ESOL to adults as part of my job in the United States, and the 20-hour certificate was a great way to complete a professional development/continuing education requirement. The program offers a great guideline for organizing your English lessons, and gives fun class ideas to engage your students.

120 Hour Course, Straightforward, Experience-Based, Resource heavy
8 year(s) ago.
Ian made a great course supplied with youtube videos of his actual teachings and advice, as well as supplemental videos from other sources that are just as useful. Ian tries to orient his course around the information that he has on his blog, so even when you're done with the course, you don't feel alone, left out, and confused. At the end he even includes a reference which can be really helpful when trying to start in a new country. I've learned so much from this course (and I came here from an incomplete i-to-i class after my email was ignored) and I don't regret it. Ian is quick to respond to messages and fix any issues, and I never had any outstanding problems.

If you want cheap, effective, and straight to the point, this course has got you covered.

Though I would recommend, use a notebook and take plenty of notes!

This course was easy and fun to go through. I really enjoyed it & it has also given me confidence in teaching and standing in front of students.

Another thing that I love is the efficiency and help from the administrator. He always responded timeously every time I needed assistance. This course is affordable too, I would encourage anyone to get on the wagon and do it :)

120 hour online TEFL course
8 year(s) ago.
I just completed the 120 hour online TEFL course. I am an experienced teacher, having taught Science and Gifted Education in the US for ten years prior to coming to Taiwan. Although teacher prep programs will help, many aspects of teaching EFL are unique. I wish I would have taken this course BEFORE I started teaching here three years ago. The methods and insights given in ESL Insider's 120 hour TEFL course could have saved me a lot of grief and disappointment. Now I am optimistic about starting a new school year armed with better lessons and a realigned perspective. Thank you, ESL Insider!
