  • Great resources here! Where do I sign up for your newsletter?? Thanks!
  • @James The TESOL may help, however I don't think it would guarantee anything. Native speakers need to have a degree to teach there, but like I said ask around at Gaijinpot since you have a passport. That should make things easier for you.
  • @James Hi... Not really. You may be able to find a job teaching illegally, but most schools will require a native speaker to have a degree for the visa. However, since you have a Japanese passport then I think things would be different for you. Ask around at "Gaijinpot".
  • Hi im 18 and hold both English and Japanese passports, English is my native language however I hold no degree just GCSE's, if I was to get a TESOL qualification would I be able to teach In Japan? I really want to get out of Manchester and live in Tokyo where my dad is, but I want to make sure that I will have a good chance of employment with TESOL if I was to get it. (Submitted this about 3 times, doesn't seem to go through) :0
  • Hi, im mixed Japanese and English and hold both passports, my native language is English, would I be able to teach in Japan if I was to get a TESOL qualification, im 18 but have no degree just GCSE'S
  • @Rhiannon Buckley Technically no. You need to be a native speaker and to have a bachelors degree. TEFL certificates can help, but they are not required to legally teach there.

  • hi i have always wanted to teach overseas and japan is the natural option as im part japanese i speak a little and read better (still learning) i am studying for a degree in humaties and was wondering if there was anything else i would need to teach in japan
  • @Mosi I am not familiar with Indonesia, but the most reputable English teaching certificate is usually a CELTA certificate. You can read more about them below at the link "TEFL/TESOL/CELTA Courses".
  • Greetings. I'm interested in teaching in Indonesia. I'm married to an Indonesian woman, and want to teach there, while learning Bahasa Indonesia. Do you know if any particular certificate is better for teaching there? I'm native American, hold a BA, a JD, and also an LL.M., but looking to switch careers. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  • @Jonathan Rollins In most cases you need to have a degree. If you don't have that you could try the TALK program in Korea. I think you just need to have a few years completed. You can check that out. You could probably also get a job in China. Some employers will give visas (usually F visas) to teachers without degrees. I don't think those are the official way like the Z visa, but people do it. Illegal work is also possible, but it's not usually very stable.
  • No, I don't have a degree. I am currently pursuing a degree online, but it will be awhile before completion. As of now, I have 58 college credits complete.
  • @Jonathan Rollins Do you have a degree?
  • Hello,
I would love to work in an Asian country. I am a native English speaker and have 120 hr TEFL certification. Am I qualified to teach anywhere? I'm extremely flexible.
